I used to work at a place called " Greasy Tony's" in Tempe. It was a block or two away from the college. I think I lived on rural and lemon at the time. Most of you won't know who Greasy Tony was because that restaurant hasn't been open in years most likely. It was right on rural and university. Cheesesteak and pizza place. Tony Giorgianni and his son. I think they were involved with the mob. They were in the papers after John got busted ( his son ) for illegal gambling. I could tell you some stories. Maybe the statute of limitations is up by now hell it's been more than 20 years now. Maybe I will tell some stories....hmmmm. Anyway, we got raided one day by four black SUVs filled with really serious dudes. Boy did they search everywhere in that restaurant. Don't think they found anything except my bag of weed that I threw into the deep fryer where it started cooking filling the place with the smell of plastic and marijuana and the two illegal mexicans that were hiding in the back. They were my employees. They laughed at both. Hey, this was the 90's man, you went to prison for having a half ounce of weed on you and for hiring undocumented people. I loved having them around....a very good plug at the time. When everything they were looking for was hidden under our pizza of the day display.They never found it. There was gun fire ( his girlfriend), a stabbing, a bloody band aid in a sandwich incident, boobs against the glass on a daily basis, a love triangle, a new hire who wore really short shorts and looked llike roast beef, money laundering, pay offs, I had some people you wouldn't believe come in there and drop off money in our little brown take away bags to me so I could give it to john when he showed up. One day it must've been a great day for my boss cause I had a pile of small brown paper bags with amounts and initials on them. My boss's son asked me if I thought about taking it and running? I paused and said, Yes i sure did think about taking it. I fantasized about it. But what's the use of having all the money in the world if you're dead? He just laughed and I went back to work. It was almost 92 thousand dollars. And this was in the 90's. It was a lot of money. Not worth my life. His wife was crazy too. So was his girlfriend. I miss that job so much. It was literally the first actual job I ever had as an adult. It was the most insane and bizarre and illegal place to work. We used to shoot water balloons at the cafe across the street called the tomato soup cafe with this giant sling shot thing. They had no idea who it was. We laughed so hard. Johnny our boss;s son showed us how. They used to get so mad. Omg that place was the best. I heard Tony died of heart attack right there behind the counter like we all knew he would. He might've been a cantankerous s.o.b. but he was our s.o.b. Miss ya. Thank you for all the years of just insanity and drugs and women and money and trips to Mexico and raves in the big red bus, thanks for getting me arrested that day, and tucson, Tucson was an oasis. Except for the ride down. That was horrifying.

My sister was born in Germany while my dad, a major in the US Army, was stationed there. Both of my parents were born in the US, had US passports and US birth certificates. Dad's Army records were burned in the fire at the St. Louis records depository way back. My sister can't get a US passport because she can't get a birth certificate.

It undermines the police’s abilities to actually do their jobs and increases the negative sentiment from the communities against police.
